Scott Pilgrim is dating a high schooler.
Pilgrim, a 23-year-old guitar player of the band Sex Bob-omb, is unemployed and an effortless mooch who lives in Toronto with his gay roommate Wallace. He not only shares his home with Wallace, but Wallace's bed, furniture and food. This leads to many sarcastic and witty jokes on Wallace's part.
While riding the bus one day Pilgrim picks up the fallen books of Knives Chau, a 17-year-old high school student. The relationship develops into hand holding and obsession ensues as Knives becomes Sex Bob-omb's biggest and most devoted fan.
The story twists and turns as Scott develops his own obsession with New York native Ramona Flowers. Flowers is the top delivery girl for Amazon.ca and she's just moved into town. She's trendy, cute, and causes Scott to check his pulse whenever she's around.
She glides through his dreams on her token rollerblades causing him to make lame attempts to get to know her by ordering CDs online in the hopes of her delivering them to his front door.
They meet and of course a love triangle ensues with Knives getting the shitty end of the stick. Scott attempts to pursue something with the elusive Ramona as he and his bandmates prepare for an upcoming concert at the Rockit.
After Scott and Ramona share a moment of sorts, she shows up to watch the gig along with Scott's sister, her boyfriend, Wallace and a few others. They not only get to see Sex Bob-omb but the exciting beginning of what is to be Scott's trials with Ramona's seven evil ex-boyfriends that he must defeat before he can actually succeed in dating her.
The first, Matthew Patel, dressed as a pirate and ready for action interrupts Scott's performance leading to an explosive fight that video game lovers of all kinds can appreciate.
Will Scott Pilgrim defeat Patel and win Ramona over? Will he end his relationship with the high schooler? Will he ever get a job? We will never know, until Volume Two: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.
