Millions celebrated the global tradition with their families while thousands of troops were hundreds of kilometres away fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan and the other war-torn countries. Certainly not forgotten were the crises affecting the population in Darfur, Mogadishu and Suva.
The penultimate moments of 2006 brought the end to a musical legend, a devoted politician and a ruthless dictator. In the final days of December, James Brown, the 'the King of Soul´ and the 38th president of the U.S., Gerald 'Jerry´ Ford sadly passed away. Millions danced in the streets of Tikrit, Mosul, Baghdad, and Kurdistan, celebrating the last moments of Saddam Hussein, the man who had ruled over the Iraqi people for the better part of three decades.
Hussein, who was found guilty after a tumultous trial, where several judges and lawyers were threatened with their life, was executed by hanging on the final day of 2006.
Nevertheless at the strike of midnight, in rural countrysides, crowded metropolises, oceanic paradises and in Reykjavik, Iceland, celebrations touched off with fireworks, bonfires and a large consumption of alcohol.
2007, Year of the Pig, promises to enlighten, excite and astound the Earth´s six plus billion people.
Happy New Year, good health, good happiness and good prosperity.
