Brock News:
The Brock wrestling teams placed second overall at the 2008 Ontario Junior Provincials on the weekend.
Jazmine Mian was the only female gold medal winner, attaining first in the 48kg weight class. Laura Steffler had a solid outing, placing second in the 72kg class and Celeste Rodriguez and Alishah Depass both finished third in the 59kg and 82kg weight class respectively.
For the men, Chris Laverick earned a first place finish in the 74kg weight class. Aaron Fabiano, Paul Rabjohn and R.J. Piper all received a silver medal.
The Badgers swimming team participated at the University of Western Ontario meet on the weekend with a variety of swimmers finishing in the top 10.
Cora Michener, Victoria Culp, Holly Hopkins, Juliana Gonzalez, Vanessa Wappel, Jess Plata, Breanne Drouin and Amy Linn all earned a top-10 finish for the women, highlighted by Michener's first place finish in the 200m backstroke.
For the men, Devan McNeill and Keith VanHemmen both earned spots on the podium with McNeill finishing third in both the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke and VanHemmen in the 200m backstroke.
Badgers men's hockey team captain Ryan Del Monte and women's wrestler Jessie Bondy were named Brock University Henley Honda Male and Female Athletes of the Week.
Del Monte lead the Badgers to a 2-0 weekend registering one goal and three assists. Del Monte is currently leading the Badgers with 30 points including 16 goals and 14 assists.
Bondy bolstered a 4-0 record at the Toronto Open and was named Most Outstanding Female Wrestler. Bondy was victorious over the number two and number three ranked wrestlers in the 55kg weight class for the second straight week.
