North by Northeast is an amazing showcase of Canadian and international talent. In four days, NXNE consumes the streets of Toronto with hidden indie gems playing tiny bars, and movie screenings from up-and-coming filmmakers. They also bring in some well-known talent - this year's line-up will be announced in the first week of May.
Pemberton
When: July 25-27
Where: Pemberton, BC
It will cost you: $259.50/three-day pass
Headliners: Coldplay, Tom Petty, Nine Inch Nails, Jay-Z
Pemberton is a brand new music festival, and they have a great line-up to make their mark in 2008. Aside from their major headliners, they have plenty of bands to satisfy the indie-loving crowd. Plus, who wouldn't want to listen to awesome music while surrounded by amazing mountains and wilderness?
Pitchfork
When: July 18-20
Where: Chicago, IL
It will cost you: $65/three-day pass
Headliners: Public Enemy, Dinosaur Jr, Animal Collective
This indie festival has a pretty impressive line-up this year considering its modest price. Pitchfork presents three days of bands that will be sure to satisfy any hipster.
S.C.E.N.E.
When: June 29
Where: St. Catharines, ON
It will cost you: $25 advance, $30 at door
Headliners: TBA
St. Catharines' own music festival began as a showcase for local talent, and while it continues to keep its focus on Niagara-based artists, it has expanded to include international acts as well. Last year brought in The Constantines, The Reason and Bedouin Soundclash. This year's line-up will be announced in May.
Vans Warped Tour
When: July 19
Where: Barrie, ON
It will cost you: $65
Headliners: Pennywise, Say Anything, Protest the Hero, Against Me!
Vans Warped Tour is every pop punk-lover's dream. Each year's Warped Tour brings a full day of punk rock fun - just be prepared to spend it with crowds of young, angst-filled teens.
Virgin Festival
When: Sept. 6-7
Where: Toronto, ON
It will cost you: $82/one-day pass or $138/weekend pass
Headliners: Foo Fighters, Oasis, Bloc Party, Paul Weller
Toronto Island's annual Virgin Festival offers an adventure-filled weekend - with the ferry ride over and the plethora of activities and shops open on the island, there is never nothing to do. The only not-so-fun part is the often hours-long wait for the ferry to or from the festival.

A bunch of strangers and a lot of sweating but all for a very good cause. I can't begin to describe the feeling at such a concert. It's simply amazing. (Continued…)
