The end of November marks the annual Brock Animal Rights Club's Toy and Food Drive for the Lincoln County Humane Society.
Your donations provided in this fourth year of the initiative will go directly to the Humane Society where it will provide care and supplies for the animals living at the shelter.
"In addition to collecting needed supplies for the Lincoln County Humane Society (LCHS), the annual drive is an opportunity for Brock Animal Rights Club (BARC) to raise awareness about the increasingly serious pet over-population crisis in the Niagara Region," said Kimberly Costello, organizer of the fourth annual Toy and Food Drive.
"Thousands of cats end up in shelters annually in the Niagara Region, most of which end up being euthanized," said Costello.
"According to statistics released from the LCHS last year alone, approximately 3,500 cats were euthanized in the Niagara Region due to pet over-population."
The Brock Animal Rights Clubs urges all to take part in the prevention of this over-population by having their animals spayed or neutered and consider the option of adopting from a local shelter.
If you wish to take part in a more hands-on way, BARC encourages volunteers who wish to donate their time to the animals within the shelters, for example, socializing cats and walking dogs, to do so.
"Interested parties are encouraged to visit BARC's table during the food drive to receive additional information on these rewarding volunteer programs," said Costello.
As well as this initiative, BARC is cooperating with Niagara Action for Animals on the fundraiser, "Paws for Thought".
To participate, you can purchase a "Paw" for two dollars.
"All proceeds will go to Niagara Action for Animals who offer low-cost spay/neuter services to low income residents and residents caring for feral cat colonies in the Niagara Region," said Costello.
This fundraiser will be available, along with the Toy and Food Drive, in Mackenzie Chown A Block.
The BARC booth will be set up and available on Nov. 25 and 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
