It would be one of the most anticipated events of the season; the lineup started to form approximately two hours before.
Restless children all awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus were jumping and dancing from excitement, the atmosphere could bring a smile to even the most cynical Scrooge.
On Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. the Magical Santa's Arrival Show took place at the Pen Centre. A silent crowd hushed as Kobbler Jay, the Eccentric Juggler, stepped up on stage. With a quick grin to the audience Jay began his first trick, a series of hat tosses that could rival Frank Sinatra's grace with his Dobb's fedora.
Jay, born Jason Henderson, has incredible ease and charisma on stage. As his show proceeds he sends the children into gales of laughter with his witty charm and plethora of mind baffling tricks.
At one point Jay stands upon three balanced benches which are leveled on a teeter-totter-like pedestal. To make this feat even more astounding, he somehow managed to juggle three knives and hold a spinning plate in his mouth. This complicated exhibition of talent had everyone on the edge of their seat, worrying that everything might take a turn for the worse. But Jay is a professional and pulled off the problematic trick with flair and finesse.
Jay himself is quite the character in person; he was clearly born to be on stage. Modeling camp, guitar lessons, drum kits, band practice and eventually comedy clubs all helped to prepare him to make the risky jump into showbiz.
As Jay wowed the audience, Greg Frewin, the International Grand Champion of Magic, warmed up. Frewin has appeared on stages all over the world including Las Vegas, Columbia, Japan, Chile, and various countries in Europe.
World renowned for his arcane abilities, he has won awards such as The Gold Medal of Excellence and first place at the International Brotherhood of Magicians. Frewin is also the only magician worldwide who has won the Triple Crown in magic.
The masterful magician conjured up hidden ducks, made beautiful women disappear and provided an engaging show for the excited children of the Niagara Region.
