This year, Brock's Faculty of Education will contribute to the faculty of the South African North-West University (NWU).

Dolana Mogadime, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Educations' Graduate and Undergraduate Studies Department, has been part of the department since 2003.

She was appointed to the position of Extra-ordinary Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education Sciences at the Potchefstroom Campus at NWU.

As the coordinator of Brock's collaborative partnership with NWU, Mogadime has worked with Brock International to facilitate graduate internships for students.

Mogadime was chosen by NWU for her efforts in producing close academic and research ties between both institutions.

These efforts are associated with NWU's mission to provide international teaching and education opportunities for its students.

As well, these efforts are close to Mogadime's heart, having been born in South Africa before moving to Canada with her family.

"We do come from a country that historically denied black people an education through oppressive laws," said Professor Mogadime. "As a result of the Bantu Education Act of 1953, my parents didn't want their children to receive an inferior education just because we were black."

Along with this strong influence of the importance of education and her mother's position as an educator in Canada, both of her grandparents were educators in South Africa before switching to the business sector to provide a better income for their families.

In this three-year term that starts this year, Mogadime will visit the institution annually to work as a research guide and aid in increasing mutual research initiatives and combined publications.

"I have committed to spending at least a two week period in South Africa each year - as an outcome of accepting the position as Extra-Ordinary Associate Professor," said Mogadime.

She will also present public lectures on global research initiatives that she is concerned with in South Africa.

Mogadime was born in Pretoria, South Africa, which might have contributed to her interests in the efforts in the collaboration of Brock and NWU.
