By now we've all likely ditched our New Year's resolutions in favour of our old habits that, well, are basically just easier to adhere to - it's why we chose to try and rid ourselves of them in the first place.
But don't feel too bad if you've already encountered some failure in your attempts to keep said resolutions, you're not alone.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLGC) constantly retreats from what they set out to, especially in the fine world of sports betting.
Sure, betting on sports should have been one of my resolutions this year, as I rarely win and often just end up donating my hard earned money in favour of the dream that I'll make a quick pay day. After all, my picks are solid every week. I'm not one of those suckers.
However, this past weekend, as I went to the local convenience store to give my donation, I was told by the lovely lady behind the counter that she could not process the ticket that I was sure to win an abundance of money on.
I thought that perhaps it was an oversight on my own behalf and had filled out the ticket wrong. So, there I went, back to the stout little blue counter filled with game sheets and tickets for betting on just about anything.
After re-filling out the ticket I took it back to the counter and, low and behold, encountered the exact same problem as just a few short minutes ago.
This time I was told that the OLGC had halted bets on all Saturday playoff football games.
Here we go again I thought.
Just last week, the New England Patriots were favoured by a touchdown over the Buffalo Bills. The spread seemed incredibly small given the Bills play as of late and the fact that the Patirots had a playoff spot to play for.
Naturally, I opted for the Pats only to find out that the OLGC had taken that game off the line.
I can't be sure of the reason why, but I, along with many others who have encountered this problem, have deduced that the OLGC realized it screwed up, set a spread too small and too many people would cash in on a pay day because of it.
