I'm all for activism.
While I don't ever take the time, nor can I ever really muster the interest - feigned or otherwise - to ever take part in it, I appreciate its existence and those who advocate on behalf of whatever unjust cause has ruffled their feathers (no pun intended, well kind of) at any given time.
I'm sure that somewhere activism works. I'm sure that the actions taken by any given group of people who have come together to fight for the same cause have resulted in the positive result they set out searching for. I'm sure that rooted in the very word, is the good-willed and well-thought of design in which to press forward to reverse some terrible tragedy that has been set into motion. I'm sure that somewhere, this actually happens.
I can't tell you the names of the towns or cities or campuses that I'm speaking of, because I tend to never stray too far away from the friendly confines of home.
What I can tell you, however, is that on that list of towns, cities or campuses, Brock University is not one of them.
Whether it's the region, the institution, or simply just the generation that we have been destined to, we've managed to breed such a distressing assemblage of apathetic monotones that we stimulate the appearance that we simply don't care about anything.
Just last week, BUSU had a poster scattered on bulletin boards around campus that was intended to inform the student population that they would be holding a forum on how to make your university experience better - acting on your behalf to ensure that the policies currently in place by the university are those which are not only meeting your expectations, but enhancing your overall experience.
What ended up happening was, instead of taking into account the importance of the text on the 11' by 17' piece of paper, some chose to not only dwell, but become un-nervingly enraged by the picture that accommodated the heading; "Got beef with academic policy?"
The image showed a bull fighter with a bull rushing past him.
