My LIE-brary

Brock University, the place where I came to start my scholastic journey; to learn and study and become an academic. Too bad Brock forgot to tend to the most important aspect of academia; the books, the resources, the space; the library.
Sure, they renovated, but was it really enough?
I love my school, I really do. I met some great friends here, had some really great classes that I never made it to, went to some great parties that I never quite made it home from and spent a lot of time doing my work in the library - or trying to find a seat in the library, anyway. I don't know about you, but renovations and all, Brock's library just hasn't been doing its job.
It is one thing for Starbucks to run out of seating, but the library? This establishment is supposed to support my needs so that I can be academically successful, but to be honest, there doesn't seem to be any room for me to do that.
I see multiple buildings going up, but I don't see much of my money going into the heart and soul of education; the library. Books, studying, reading; that is what university is all about after all, and no matter how beautiful the campus looks with all the new architecture, the next generation of students will be enjoying that - not me. It is doing me no good to see these plans for Brock's future when my present situation is compromised. How is a student supposed to do well when their academic resources are lacking?
Did you know that other universities in Ontario actually have multiple libraries? Imagine - speciality libraries for different faculties, libraries that stay open until 2 a.m., with endless books and working plugs.
Let me give credit where it is due. The new study room is great, plugs for all, quiet study - just one problem - it only seats 59 people. What about the thousands of other students that go to Brock? Sure, 59 students seems like plenty at the beginning of a semester, but once exam time hits, what are we all supposed to do? Too many times I have walked into that building to study and had to begin a never-ending search, floor to floor, climbing the endless stairs because the elevator was just too busy, and at the end of it all still found myself unable to find a seat.

-They renovated and added study rooms and multiple computers which is now a students favorite place to study. Of course they are continuing to add study space in the new buildings that are going up. (Continued…)
