What do you feel is the strongest aspect of your platform for the 2010-11 year, that you feel will benefit students both now and in the future?
The strongest aspect of my platform: it's focused on bringing the next big thing from BUSU. The heart of my platform reflects past platforms that introduced revolutionary ideas like the U-Pass and the first Students Centre. Starting 2 Companies and winning 3 elections before age 20, proves that I know how to focus on big ideas while providing solutions for the present. Time to elect a president who will FINALLY bring the next big thing!
How will you address the issue of student apathy on campus?
A Presidential platform strongly supporting student & club initiatives + A motivational & empowering leadership style = Energized & (un?)apathetic students! Let me explain. Student apathy does exist at Brock, but it is stronger in certain student groups than in others. I will drive BUSU's energy towards engaging these distant groups by increasing funding, resources, support, communication and programming. Students at Brock won't care about BUSU until it's proven that BUSU cares about them too!
In your view, what should BUSU's role be in every student's day-to-day life?
BUSU should be that friend who never stops trying to make your life easier and memorable. Communication between friends is important. You can't help your friend if the two of you have stopped talking. Students need to voice their concerns and express their ideas. BUSU should be that mentor, supporter and mediator for student ideas, initiatives and concerns. BUSU's role in your day to day life should reflect the role of a best friend
What is the biggest change you would like to see in BUSU in the upcoming year?
In the coming year your Students Union President will be focused on bringing the NEXT Big Thing from BUSU. For the sake of evolution, the President must drive BUSU towards new ventures rather than just improving existing services. Who was the last President who took BUSU to the next level? Brought the big idea that impacted all students? My mission is to take BUSU to the next level! www.sohail.ca
