Harper names five to senate

Prime Minister Stephen Harper named a much-anticipated change to the Senate. The addition of five new senators gives the Conservatives control in the Senate, as well as the house, which will provide much greater sway over the legislative agenda.
Senate additions:
• Bob Runciman, former Ontario cabinet minister, appointed for Ontario
• Vim Kochhar, businessman and disabled persons advocate, appointed for Ontario
• Pierre-Hugues Boisvenu, victims rights activist, appointed for Quebec
• Elizabeth Marshall, former provincial auditor general, appointed for Newfoundland and Labrador
• Rose-May Poirier, current Conservative Member of the Legislative Assembly, appointed for New Brunswick
